How to avoid getting flash in the eyes?

I really need help because I am starting to get really irritated. Every time we have a picture taking, whether it's a birthday party or any other occasions, I always turnout getting the camera's flash in my eyes while everybody's picture is normal. I really need help. I don't care if your answer is too long as long it explains why it happens and how to avoid it. Even my very own iphone, when ever I take a picture of myself for a new profile picture, I also have those reflections if the flash in my eye. Don't give programs so I can edit it, I want real and natural solutions. As to what camera I'm using, mostly digital cameras as long as it has a flash.
