What do you consider taking care of a horse is?

I know it sounds like a kinda dumb question and im not asking because i dont know how to care for my horse. i just wanted to know what you guys consider is good care for a horse. it seems like alot of people think as long as you give it food and water then your taking care of it. for example, i have someone at my barn who has their horse locked in a stall 24/7, they never let it out, never groom it, and usually cleaning the stall is just picking manure off the top everyday and since they dont really clean it like they should, the manure builds up about a foot or so after a while and the stall stinks. the poor horse is always dirty and itchy, and always looks miserable just standing staring at a wall. everytime a horse goes by her stall she scrapes her teeth against the feeder and tries to be intimidating because shes become possesive of it from being locked up all the time. to add on to that, her legs are swollen and stiff alot because she stacks up. the owner says its arthritis, but the one time i did see her out she moves fine once she starts to move around. she is about thirty i believe, but shes been locked up for as long as i can remember, and theyve been here for years. the reason they dont want to let her out is supposedly because shes really agressive and theyre scared shell hurt someone elses horse and theyll get in trouble. but ive seen her out one time, and she was the most submissive horse out there, yielding to any horse that pushed her. quite honestly, i think theyre just lazy and dont wanna have to go get her, so they use that as an excuse. they even had a vet tell them that she needs to be let out after she got a bad abcess in her foot from standing in her own manure and urine so much, yet shes still locked up. BUT, they do come out once a day and feed her and make sure she has water in the stall(another thing, they never clean her water bucket), and pick some manure outta the stall. and if she needs a vet, theyll have a vet come out. but thats about as far as their care goes. the sad thing is, they seem to think the way they take care of her is perfectly fine. So, what do you consider good care for a horse? to me, its grooming your horse and checking them over everyday, feeding them and making sure they have clean water, cleaning their stall everyday if theyre in one, making sure if theyre in a stall that they get let out everyday for most of the day, and if theres no turnout making sure they get PLENTY of exercise out of the stall everyday.i could list alot more things but im not gonna ramble on seeing as i already have. so overall, i think taking care of a horse is keeping them physically AND mentally healthy. What about you? just a kinda random question to hear what people think.:)

I'm a foot away from the ground and have been stretching everyday for two weeks. Exercise him and lunge him frequently, as much as possible. He is stressed from the move and the restriction of space... Keeping him entertained with toys and licks will help him keep calm and entertained when you aren't there to walk, exercise, and ride him. If he doesn't calm within a month ask your vet what feed he would recommend and what calming supplements he would recommend.

i'm fifteen years old, and basically there's this 3 year old horse that i NEED in my life.. seriously. she was about 1 years old at my yard when i was loaning a pony and she was really badly behaved, she actually used to be dangerous to be with so i started to go in her stable and work with her and after many days of going home with scrapes and bruises, i got a strong bond with her and her behaviour gradually built up from there. i would go in every day and groom her, no headcollar, she used to make me laugh so much, and as my loan pony was in the riding school, i spent more time with the filly than i did with my loan pony. the thing is, after over a year of working with this filly, i had to leave the yard and have heard that she's got SO naughty again, and they're trying to break her in now. i miss her so so so much, there's not a day that goes by that i dont think about her, there's not a night when i dont dream about her, i sit here and cry sometimes at the thought of her leaving and not coming back.. writing this is making me cry and i'm pretty tough skinned. my dad says he doesnt want me to buy her because of the risk involved, because she's so young, but if she got sold i honestly dont know what i would do. i'm making a video to show to him to try to make him understand how much i love this filly. if i could let go, i would, but i'm just too attatched to forget about her. her and my shetlands are EVERYTHING to me. plus, she's up for sale. i could possibly get half the money to buy her but she would be sold by the time i got the other half. so i want to hear from you lot.. should i completely give up on her and let her get sold and just suffer the heartbreak, or should i follow my dream and keep on trying to get her? it would be a 5* home, turnout and stables, all the love and care she wants, and i would work her and make her well behaved again.. i'm not scared of what could happen to me if i bought her, or the injuries i could suffer, i'm worried about what could happen to her if i dont buy her, and where she would end up. i would rather suffer from broken bones than a broken heart, and life is either a daring adventure or nothing. thankyou :)

Previously I asked a question about my horse having a bump on his back?

I had asked a question about my horse having a bump on his back and having trouble walking. The vet came out earlier this week to do an exam and said that he had a vertebrae out of linemen and that he would be okay after she put it back in (she has done chiropractic studies too). So she shifted his back and the bump went down almost instantly. After that he was walking a little bit better and it seemed to relieve a lot of the pressure and pain. The next day (he is still on stall rest with minimal turnout in the round pen) I went to feed him and he could barely move. He has his rump all hunched under himself and is standing on his toes with his hind feet. We call her back and told us to give him 2 weeks on bute and stall rest to see if he recovers, if not we will have to take him to Auburn to get him looked at. She said if he is not looking better within 2 weeks then he could possibly have a fractured vertebrae. If he does have the fracture I was told it would take months to heal and he would probably never be able to ride again. So the question is have you ever or do you know of someone with a horse that has a fractured vertebrae? Do you know anything about it? I have been looking up info about it but can't really find much. 12 x 30 ft is a good shelter for a pasture, only. I don't know about laws, but I will tell you my personal opinion. Generally, the rule of thumb is 1 acre per horse. I personally like 2 acres per horse, and if the grass is thin, I like 3 or 4 acres per horse. If this amount of land is not available, you can stick to the 1 acre per horse, and do not feed directly on the ground. That cuts back on some of the water hay, and the ground will stand up longer. When it rains, either keep your horse inside, or have a dry lot on hand for the wet weather. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you have it all Pretty well covered. I would make sure you budget in vet such as shots ext. also have a rainy day fund if you can for emergency's. Anything can happen with a horse. The board sounds reasonable I pay 490 for 3 meals of grain and hay mucking and turn out and blanketing. Bankruptcy on student loans?

I know that when you sign the contract it states that you cannot file bankruptcy. But I heard about a case going pretty far into the court system about a guy that filed bankruptcy and still owed his loans so he took it to court. Well, you make a bit of an assumption there. That more minorities voted in 2008 than other elections is a fact, but then you go on to assume that it is because Obama was running. A 50' diameter round pen is approximately 15 meters in diameter. That should be sufficient for ponies and many horses at the trot. A large horse may have difficulty if he is not fit and supple -- but you said your horses aren't that large, so I think you'd be fine. It sounds as though all your horses are quite young. If they're under 4, you should work in short increments anyway -- maybe 15 minutes or so -- to accommodate their short attention spans. Because your Ev's and held item completely change the strat for each pokemon. The team is basically looking good but you should also know what pokemon are going to be revenge killers, sweepers, tanks, and support. For more info on this check out Smogon University for (D/P). Many different personalities?

I find my horse has tons of different personalities, In the feild by herself she will chasse me around and follow everything i do, she is a sweet sweet horse, when shes out in morning turnout with the other mares, she will be boring and just sit there and eat her hay, if the other horses go run around she will go lay in the mud. When she is out with the 4 geldings and 2 other mares she will race the gelding ( and she kicks ***!) Shes very playful even if shes with them in the morning, around mares shes boring. When im doing dressage with her, she gets very bored and she will fake limp, or purpusly trip. When I leave her on the cross ties for 5 minuites she chews on the chains. I've had varicose veins in my legs since I was around 35, I'm now 52. When I was 44 I started walking 8 miles a day, but only kept it up for a couple of months. What in the world did I just see?

So I randomly looked out my window just now... and I noticed the biggest, brightest star (or so I thought) I had ever seen. It was probably about 50x bigger than a typical star. I stared at it for about 3 seconds before it started moving. I then thought, oh it must be a plane. But it didnt move across the sky like a plane does, it seemed to move farther away from earth. It got smaller and less bright for about 10 seconds before completely disappearing into the night. I thought maybe it was a meteor, but shooting stars tend to move much quicker than this did. Schooling show- play it safe with Walk/Trot classes or try a canter class?

I think that if your willing to experiment a bit, go for it! If you can, the day before the show go to the barn where the show is going to be and ride him in the ring/arena that they have there and ride with some other people. The only way you can really find out how he will behave is to play with it a little bit! Also, if he prefers trail rides so much he hopefully will be fine adapting to a new environment on the day of the show. I think its worth a shot, and even if it doesn't go the way that you plan its a learning experience and then you will have a better idea of what to expect from your horse next time, or what you might want to do differently. So i would go with the full board when you have to buy the feed and the bedding it will probably add up any way to the same or more then the full board. the only time self care is a help full thing is when you have a lot of horses buying in balk is cheaper but a single horse. Can someone explain to me why my blood pressure lowers when I drink excessive amounts of alcohol?

I am a habitual drinker unfortunately. Although I am not an alcoholic since I have a strong will to control it, when I drink I do so excessively. After purchasing a blood pressure monitor, I decided to do an experiment. I've monitored my blood pressure throughout the day both sober and intoxicated. Come to find out, my blood pressure and pulse are lower when I drink vs when I don't! After drinking six lagers, my blood pressure is 124/83 which is normal. When I was sober 8 hours ago it was 144/101! Also, my pulse went down 10 beats per min from 101 to 91. Does this make any sense to anyone? I do realize that alcohol is a depressant but many medical sites online state the opposite should be happening. I would greatly appreciate any insight. Thanx!

I'm a senior level skater and have been skating for a super long time. Still to this day I've always wondered why people rant and rave about how ballet is good for skating? How to avoid getting flash in the eyes?

I really need help because I am starting to get really irritated. Every time we have a picture taking, whether it's a birthday party or any other occasions, I always turnout getting the camera's flash in my eyes while everybody's picture is normal. Do you think I could damage my washer by washing a horse blanket?

I have never heard of anyone going professionally and starting at such an age, but anything is possible. It is very good that you have these characteristics because you wouldn't be able to do ballet or any type of dance without them. You will definitely have to work twice as hard and practice, practice, and more practice. Again anything is possible, and if you already have experience in different types of dance, this is also good.

19 starting ballet- becoming professional?

I am 19. 5'7" 140lbs (currently but that is changing) I am naturally flexible and my turnout isn't perfect but it is about 2 inches away. I have hyper extended, pretty fluid like arms. Slightly hyperextended legs (only slightly) and high insteps (that means the bottom part of your foot? Not the top, they don't have an incredible looking line) I sometimes feel like I couldn't be a ballerina because of my weight and because of my late start. I've had dance and gymnastics training when I was eight to ten and finished 6 months of ballet and jazz classes in a conservatory program. I have always wanted to be a ballerina but never got the chance. I want to now and I think I can but I don't get alot of encouragement. However my taikwondo instructor says that I have the potential to be a black belt and go into the olympics. Which makes me feel alot easier. I guess what I need to know is, do you think I have potential to be a ballerina if I start intensively training along with taikwondo? I am a firm believer in God. I know within my being that something created me and every thing around me. But what I want to know is how can we be so sure that what we read in the Bible is true? It was written by man. Back in a time when they really didn't know anything. I am sure there was a lot of superstition that we have overcome over the years. I used to have a similar problem, but with my grande jetes. For holding your turnout make sure you're using the same muscles you would in a plie where you are turning out properly and your knees are 100% over your toes. You may need to strengthen those muscles before it's going to be perfect. I would just try to think of relaxing and not trying to get your leg too high before you work on making it correct. Also, you may want to stretch before-hand so that your legs feel looser before you developpe. Just keep trying!

I understand you perfectly, Im a ballerina and I'm 16 years old also. I started on pointe at 10 and I have to tell you that is not only about the force in your legs but in your feet and ankles. But I definitely think you should ask your teacher so she can see you are interested and if you're doing something wrong that is an obstacle for pointe she can tell you so you can work hard on it. The age of introducing in ballet is important, not in all the cases but in most of them, when you enter a little big (like 8+) is more difficult to have a better technique. Oh I've seen you've been few months on ballet. Wow well getting on pointe is a hard work of years. Good luck, if you make your best you can do it!

It seems like your are up to speed, however if you want to pursue it as a career I would recommend taking more classes. I am 15 also, and I have a 2 hour class every day mon-sat followed by an hour and a half of either pointe class, rehearsal, or contemporary. I also have about 5 hours of rehearsal on sat and sun each. Although you don't need this much training (it really leaves no time for a social life!), you do need more than what you currently have.

Why is my turnout perfect in every position except fifth?

Ballet turnout & pointing/arches help?

Well, you're right..you won't be able to go on pointe if you're scrunching your toes. When you point your foot, try to remember that your foot is an extension of your leg just as your hands are an extension of your arms. When you tendu, think of lengthening your leg and sending your energy out through your feet and toes, as opposed to bunching all your energy up in your toes. Lengthen your toes when you point. Keep thinking length, length, length, not curl, curl, curl. You're probably trying to point you feet as hard as you can to achieve that "banana" shape everyone love... but it sounds like you naturally have a good foot with nice arches. Don't focus so much on how hard you can point, think of sending your energy out through the foot. Also, laying on the floor with the soles of your feet together, either laying on your back and coaxing your knees closer to the floor, or on your stomach (keeping your hipbones on the floor...your feet will be off the floor for a while) will help to open up your hips. However, no exercise will move you along faster than training your mind to use your turnout properly, from the hips, all the time. Turning out from the ankles is a recipe for disaster either in your ankles or knees. Don't do it! If you really want to be a dancer, you have to realize your body is your instrument...and you control it with your mind. Dedicate yourself to turning out properly in every ballet class, and I guarantee you'll see a difference. Also, of you can find a good Graham class, the floorwork will also do wonders for your turnout. Good Luck!

This is my first year of dance and I've advanced a lot, but now it's performance time, and at the dress rehearsal I did fine, but whenever I was in a pose, I'd shake a lot--shaking to the point of being too unbalanced to worry about turnout. I used to do figure skating, and I remember that performances and competitions weren't bad at all; it was just the time leading up to getting out in front of everyone that was awful. I know in general, ballet and figure skating are very similar, but I can already tell that they're not too similar when it comes to performances. So, any advice? Particularly to help with the unsteadiness?

Brief Sickness after Sunbed?

Recently used a sun bed (Well, sun booth, it was one where you stood up)... I was only in for 3 minutes... as it was my first time using a sun bed, and im not planning on using it as a regular thing, just to take the edge of the white glow for summer low, so that i have a slight 'slow'. After i got out and got dressed,about 5 minutes later i felt really really sick, however, within a minute or two it passed? What are the chances of this being related to the sun bed or being related to something else? (At the moment im experimenting with some food intolerances i might have, so could be linked to that?) Or is it likely to be not drinking enough before i used it, eating to soon before i used it, or that my body just doesnt like it? I had a confusing dream?

Hi i had a dream last night where i was at a school,not mine, but i know it was a school as i was staring out into a field of people doing p.e. then i saw a cloud falling into the earth and just phasing through it as it hit it. after i went to tell my freind,i don't know who but i know he was a freind,but then meteors just came and hit the earth leaving craters and then i just,i dont know, was somehow instantly outside, it was as if i was never inside. then i was running faster than i ever thought possible,for anything, as i was on the other side of a 1 mile,im guessing, field. i then saw monsters who were human-like emerging from the meteors but the meteors were now metal crate-like things and they became like that in the same way i got outside. then from nowhere i saw and heard a female presenter but in my head and it was as clear as in real life. then after that i was somehow in a city which looked like it was designed by the joker and i remember it being hot and crowded. everyone was in panic and the only 2 people i recognised were my freind and his mum who were going to help me. i somehow knew i was in a dream and the only way for me to wake up was by sleeping so i had to find a safe place from the monsters who were VERY strong and VERY fast but i dont know how i knew but i did. the rest of the dream consisted of me,my freind and his mum trying to get a car and run. dont know where but run. anyway what i want to know is why did i dream this and what did it mean?

Meteors keep killing my sims in the sims 3?

For some reason, I have ALOT of meteors in my game (ambitions). It's like, every time I play I have a meteor attack me, usually multiple times. Sometimes my sim is in a building (for example, school) and it kills them because they can't leave. As far as I can tell, most people barely ever have meteors in their game, so I have no idea why mine has so many! I haven't had any earthquakes, and none of my sims have been firefighters. I have all expansions and fully updated. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know of a mod that makes no meteor showers? And no, none of my sims even have a telescope. So annoying!

I need help trying to make stencils for my 1957 murray bicycle. I have done a lot of research on this bicycle and suprisingly could barely find out the date ,therfore i could not find any replica decals. I still have a few original decals left on the bike and i would like to know how to make stencils out of these decals to paint new ones on the bike after i restore it.
