Do you think I could damage my washer by washing a horse blanket?

I already paid to send my heavy blankets to the cleaners, but I was wondering if I could wash my light (100 grams of fill) turnout blanket in my home washer. It is a standard size front loader with a metal drum. Can the metal buckles and such on a horse blanket damage my washer? Have any of you ever had problems washing horse blankets at home? I do have some "horse blanket wash" that will not damage the waterproofing to use, and I don't mind cleaning up the hair from the inside of my washer. It's just that new washers are expensive and I can't afford to damage it.
